March the 3rd, 2012, had started like any other Saturday for the police officer on duty in London’s East End. But when two men, Tony and Danny McCluskie, and their friend Nicole stepped into the station, that evening instantly turned into one of those that the officers would never forget. As soon as Tony and Danny explained that nobody had seen their sister for two days and mentioned her name, the officers knew this was not going to be a typical missing persons case. And yet, they never imagined how horrifying and shocking the investigation into Gemma McCluskie’s disappearance would actually be.

On December 11, 1975, two police officers, Tony White and Stuart MacKenzie, were sat in their police panda car on a side road in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. They were observing the passing traffic, keeping a lookout out for any drivers breaking the rules—but then they noticed a man behaving strangely on the pavement on the opposite street.

On the 15th December 1992, Barry Sutcliffe took his normal route to work along Compstall Road, in Romiley, England. After picking up two of his colleagues he headed into the lifting darkness. But there was nothing usual about the horrific discovery he would make on an otherwise peaceful morning. At 6.10am, his headlights silhouetted the hunched-over figure of a woman standing by the roadside. As Barry inched closer, he noticed the woman’s head was bare of any hair and her skin appeared blackened and charred.

Lawrence Haggart was a popular and talented young man who lived in a two-story semi-detached house on Glenbervie Drive with his mother and two brothers. The boys’ parents, Janet and Larry, had separated a few years earlier, but Lawrence and his brothers remained close with their father, who lived just about 10 minutes away in Dunipace.

Peter Sutcliffe, better known as the “Yorkshire Ripper.” Many of us recognise this name – The serial killer who terrorised the North of England in the 1970s and early 1980s was all over the news as the public lived in fear while the police tried to put an end to his horrific killing spree that left over 20 people dead. But there was someone else that was rarely mentioned in the British press, even though they allegedly killed just as many, or even more than the “Yorkshire Ripper.” Unlike his fellow peer in depravity, a man named Bruce George Peter Lee has always evaded widespread notoriety, even though his actions put him on the list as one of the country’s most prolific serial killers.

Some of you may know Brooke Kinsella from her role as Kelly Taylor in the series EastEnders. The show has run since 1985 and is, with more than 6,500 episodes, one of the most watched soap operas in the UK. However, since 2008, Brooke has become known for a totally different kind of work, which began after a family tragedy.
